The developed-for-PSP UMD (Universal Media Disc) has received a fresh wave of support for its movie-streaming push, with 12 new titles being announced by Lions Gate Entertainment.
The new batch of UMD's, which includes Saw, House of the Dead, Total Recall, Rambo: First Blood and Open Water, will be released in North America in mid-April, with a European roll-out expected in the summer.
"Lions Gate has embraced each new viable technological advancement in the home entertainment arena as it has appeared on the horizon," company President Steve Beeks stated. "The PSP is truly an incredible machine that will quickly become a popular format with which to enjoy filmed entertainment...From the time it was initially announced, we were preparing for ways we could mileage our extensive library to deliver content for the platform."
As you may be aware,
the PSP’s bespoke media disc has seen an increasing level of interest from the movie sector, and - as long as it remains uncracked - will prove a valuable revenue stream for the loss-leading portable games machine.
