Same game, at home or on the move.

PlayStation 2/PSP Game Sharing Confirmed
The revolution has begun with the mighty Sony Computer Entertainment at the forefront, pioneering a brave new world of videogaming.

We reported last week that various information leaks from Sony’s recent PSP charm offensive pointed towards the PSP and the PlayStation 2 sharing software to some degree, and this has seemingly been confirmed by SCEJ executive Fumiya Takeno.

"Our dream is to see the PlayStation 2 in one room, the PSX in another, and the PSP for use outside of the home," stated Takeno-san. "The same game can be played by the end user depending on where you are. This is how the playing experience and development of a game will change.”

So there you have it. Perhaps some of the biggest news in the recent history of videogames, and certainly a major development in the world of portable gaming, if the dream is realised.

Expect to see Sony's plans explained in more detail at this May’s E3.

As long as new ps2 games don't require the psp to unlock certain features I'm fine with it. I am sick of nintendo trying to force gamers to buy the gba.

Dude, you are totally looking at this the wrong way. And it is making you frustrated, and annoyed which will give you hypertention and eventually result in a coronary.

Try looking at it like this, which will leave you calm, relaxed and happier with the word: These "certain features" are not features you are being denied, they are features that GBA owners are getting as extras. If there was no GBA, the features wouldn't exist at all an no-one would get them.

The glass if half full.

I don't get this.

Why would Sony make the PSP use similar software to PS2? By the time the handheld is released, the PS3 will be heading to stores. Considering this, stating they want to have people buy PSX, PS2 & PSP is useless as most gamers want the newest platforms to play the new games on.

The software will be different and it is most unlikely that a lot of new games will appear for PS2 once the next console is released. Just logics...

Just liike it's not possible to get PSX software now that PS2 has been out for years!

One way to continue the life of a hardware platform is to bring out new stuff for it. A link up with the PSP would help prolong the life of PS2, even after PS3 is out.

I don't think that nintendo comment was very fair at all.. all they are doing is making games that are amazing on their own and then IF you have a gba then you can, IF YOU WANT TO, link them together to play a few mini games note the fact that instead of FORCING you to get the four swords they simply made it separate from windwake.. both of which, in my opinion, suck... but im not a big RPG fan

Dude, you are 100% on the ball. But then that's kinda what I was trying to say in my earlier post, which you'll find higher up this page.

Handheld-console integration gives handheld holders more, not console holders less.

Plus since when was it a crime for a company to try and get you to buy their products? If it was advertising would be a punishable offence. And Micro$oft would be hung drawn and quartered for FORCING people to upgrade windows every year.

All of this somewhat misses the point of the article. I think that Sony will be offering the same game for both PS2 and PSP that can be played wherever. So, once you finish playing at home and have to go out to the shop for the latest PVC Nurses DVD, you hook up the PSP, transfer the data across, and continue playing from the point at which you last saved.

Sony is offering dual location-enabled gaming, not a link-up functionality.

And I concur with the sentiment that Nintendo has used GBA link-up cynically. "The power of Game Boy Advance, the power of GameCube and the power of CONNECTIVITY!"

F**k. Off.

Give us home console Internet play and a portable that isn't reliant on technology developed over a decade ago.
