In a survey sent out to the Xbox-owning community, Microsoft has made explicit reference to an Xbox piggyback home entertainment system, codenamed NewPC.
NewPC is a delivery system for MP3 music files and movies, originally intended for PC users as the name suggests. In the survey to Xbox users, Microsoft online partner Greenfield Online said that the service would serve music and movies to NewPC enabled PC’s and Xbox units from remote, high-capacity servers.
The company also stated that the Xbox would require a specialised connector to access the service. Amazingly, this unit has already been given a price tag of $29, with a possible release within the next twelve months.
Unfortunately, Microsoft UK was not able to comment on this.
Stay tuned for updates.
