Microsoft slashes Xbox projections – Knock-on effects detailed

nVidia shares tumble as Japanese and European markets prove hard to crack.

Microsoft has announced that it has been forced to slash its projections for Xbox sales across the world.

The firm has stated that instead of selling up to six million units this year, the maximum Microsoft now expects to shift is four million, only two thirds of the original projection.

“This reflects the ongoing weakness in Japan”, said John Connors, COO of Microsoft. “This also accounts for many weeks of sales opportunities lost in Europe while we were at the higher price,

nVidia is the first company to feel the knock-on effects from Microsoft’s revision in sales projections. The company designed and manufactured several key components for the Xbox, including the GeForce based graphics processor. Shares in nVidia dropped by more than 5% when the announcement was made.
