Satya Nadella is the new CEO of Microsoft, taking over from Steve Ballmer. Nadella - born in 1967 - joined the company 22 years ago. But Bill Gates' news is also of immense interest. The news of the new CEO also comes as Bill Gates "steps up to new role as Technology Advisor", leaving his role as Chairman of Board of Directors. He is replaced by John Thompson. This move signals a far more hands-on role for Gates.
According to the hilariously infantile yet strangely blurb officially posted on the
Microsoft site: "he brings a relentless drive for innovation and a spirit of collaboration to his new role. He joined Microsoft 22 years ago because he saw how clearly Microsoft empowers people to do magical things and ultimately make the world a better place. Many companies, he says, “aspire to change the world. But very few have all the elements required: talent, resources and perseverance. Microsoft has proven that it has all three in abundance.”"
The new CEO, "previously held the position of Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group."
More info about him reveals that, "Since joining the company in 1992, Nadella has spearheaded major strategy and technical shifts across the company’s portfolio of products and services, most notably the company’s move to the cloud and the development of one of the largest cloud infrastructures in the world supporting Bing, Xbox, Office and other services. During his tenure overseeing Microsoft’s Server and Tools Business, the division outperformed the market and took share from competitors."
But Bill Gates is back is also very, very notable indeed.
