The UK franchise of Blockbuster has gone into administration with immediate effect but it will be keeping all of its 264 stores trading while it finds new backers.It has, however, made 32 people unemployed in its head office. The company's present owners the Gordon Brothers blame “poor trading” in the UK for their decision.

MCV reports Gordon Brothers' Europe statement that, "We had striven to turn around the historically loss-making company by restructuring the business, investing significantly in strategic marketing activities and negotiating with the landlords of its retail outlets.
"The company also tried to develop a new digital platform but was unable to broker a licensing deal with Blockbuster UK's parent company in the US."
