Blockbuster has announced that it will be holding a special midnight launch to celebrate Microsoft's movie tie-in Kinect Star Wars. The event will be held at its Clapham store on Monday 3rd April, and it plans to give away limited edition R2-D2 themed Xbox 360 consoles to the first five customers in line.
If you don't happen to be one of the first in line, don't worry - Blockbuster has revealed that it also has copies of the Star Wars Blu-ray boxset to hand out to the next 45 punters in line. Which will be quite something if you only turned up to see what the fuss was all about. If that's the case, Blockbuster will naturally be selling Kinect Star Wars and the limited edition Star Wars Xbox 360 to anyone who wants one.
This is the first major video game launch event for Blockbuster. The video rental chain has been making bolder moves in games industry retail to better compete with - and fill the gap left by the recent troubles of - specialist retailer GAME Group.
To add spice to the launch night, customers will be able to buy Kinect Star Wars for 99p if one of the following games are traded in: Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City; FIFA Street; Street Fighter X Tekken; Twisted Metal; Ninja Gaiden 3; Asura's Wrath; Ridge Racer Unbounded; Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13.
