Microsoft is learning from past mistakes, maybe not with Surface but it seems that its latest statement regarding Indie Game development on the forthcoming Xbox One.Basically, in the olden days of Xbox 360, developers would have 'Dev Kit' on which to make their games before sending them off to Microsoft for approval and thence to the shops. Not in the bright new Xbox One age, not according to Microsoft's VP of Xbox Marc Whitten, who states:
"Our vision is that every person can be a creator. That every Xbox One can be used for development. That every game and experience can take advantage of all of the features of Xbox One and Xbox LIVE. This means self-publishing.
"This means Kinect, the cloud, achievements. This means great discoverability on Xbox LIVE. We'll have more details on the program and the timeline at gamescom in August."
Blimey. Great news. Let's hope details such as the approvals process and monetization don't bite everybody when they're revealed.
