Microsoft Rumoured to Drop Xbox One DRM

Microsoft could change the face of the next gen if rumours emerging tonight of a DRM on its Xbox One about turn are to be believed.

The company has had to face barrages of criticism for the various ways it has sought to protect first party and third party game IP as well as bricks and mortar retailers with it new console's requirement to ping Microsot's servers once every 24 hours among other DRM techniques.

According to WhatHifi, "Microsoft is set to announce it will remove DRM restrictions on Xbox One games and the need for you to have the new Xbox 'always online'

"Microsoft is set to announce the changes later today, with games developers being informed first."

According to GiantBomb this will mean:

"No more always online requirement
The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
Region locks have been dropped"

We are awaiting confirmation from Microsoft itself.
