Rumour has it that MTV has commissioned a videogame based on the Jackass series.
There are now officially two different types of people in the world: those who like Jackass and those who don’t. In case you have not yet seen the incredible TV series on MTV, allow us to enlighten you.
Created by Jonny Knoxville, Jackass is a series of short films in which a group of skateboarders, circus performers, fat men, dwarves and general nutters do disgusting and/or dangerous things. Swimming in untreated sewerage, being shot in groin with paintballs, sledging downhill on ice blocks, beating up Brad Pitt, being sick a lot and being knocked out by professional boxers are all par for the course.
MTV recently announced a full-length movie based on the antics of this motley crew, as well as “several other projects.” One of which, if rumour is to be believed, is some kind of videogame.
“We are in discussion with the Jackass team at the moment, with relation to the possibility of doing several new projects with them,” said Sam Curlewis at MTV’s press office. “We cannot at this stage disclose any further details about any of these concepts until everything is agreed. We will be making full announcements early next year.”
MTV is well known for its flirtation with the games industry, recently commissioning music utility software and a series of extreme sports titles. Exactly how a Jackass game would be realised is very interesting indeed. The general consensus is a mini-game-based title featuring loads of the Jackass stunts, with some kind of scoring system for doing them either well or painfully.
