The cat's out of the bag now. Nintendo's development head Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that a new Super Mario game for the Wii U will be unveiled at E3 this June - along with first details of the Pikmin 3 project he announced at last year's E3. Nintendo has since confirmed both statements from the industry legend. What's more, the
Super Mario game that will be shown will in fact assume the form of the
New Super Mario Bros. Wii U tech demo that was showcased at Nintendo's E3 2011 booth. It will follow the same 2D fashion as previous
NSMB games released on Wii and DS.
Miyamoto spoke about the projects to Spanish language news website
El Mundo (which has been translated by Neogaf here). He added that he is also working on
Luigi's Mansion 2 for 3DS, and wants to revisit the
Wii Music franchise, adding that he was "sad" about the sales performance of the first title.
"In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new
Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U system will be shown at this year’s E3 Expo," reads a statement published on
MyNintendoNews. "This is based on the
Mario experience that was demonstrated at last year’s E3 Expo. We’ll have more to announce about our plans for the E3 Expo at a later date."
MCV also received a statement confirming
Pikmin 3's appearance: "In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new
Pikmin game and a new
Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U system will be shown at the E3 Expo in June."
