The American Federal Trade Commission, America’s government trade watchdog, has commended games publishers for improving the warning system for unsuitable material to minors.
“The Commission found that the game industry has made substantial progress in providing accurate and prominent rating information in advertising. With a revised game industry code now in place that strengthens and clarifies disclosure requirements across all media, there remain only a few key areas where the code and compliance need strengthening.”
This is one of the first independent reports that has praised the efforts made by organisations like ELSPA in Europe and ESRB in the USA in their efforts to supply parents with suitable information when purchasing a game. It is seen as vital that this pre-purchase warning is in place to protect children from violent or adult content.
Still, there were no warnings issued when we were kids, and it never did us any harm!
