Microsoft to Kill Windows - Bring Single OS for PCs and Xbox
Microsoft is apparently looking to drop the Windows name and to introduce an 'eco-system' changing operating system or environment across all its devices including the Xbox 360.

This news comes via a report in ThisIsMyNext which quotes Andrew Lees: President, Windows Phone Division stating at the recent partners' conference:

"We won’t have an ecosystem for PCs, and one for phones, and one for tablets — they’ll all come together.”

Says Nilay Patel reporting on the event, "Lees went on to say that Microsoft wants to provide 'coherence and consistency' across different devices, 'particularly with Xbox,' and that the goal isn’t just to share UI, but also core technologies like Internet Explorer."

"What we’ve been told is that Microsoft is planning to somehow harmonize not only Windows for PCs and Windows Phone, but also the Xbox operating system sometime within the next four years — a timeframe that perfectly lines up with both the end of the Xbox 360's 10-year lifecycle and the end of Windows' expected three-year run."

Given that Microsoft is also planning to bring Kinect to smartphones, this bodes for an exciting few years ahead.

Well its been said for a while, consoles are becoming PC`s but it seems MS wants PC`s to become consoles, its about time I say, the PC is very outdated platform with very little change in the landscape, It makes sense if you think about it, why should MS just provide the OS for billions of PC`s when it can give you 1 (x)Box that performs everything, weather you want a Home PC, A Console, A Media Centre, A Business PC, everyone can buy an Xbox and it does everything you expect your current PC, Console and Media Centre does.

hum me thinks they is following in the footsteps of apple with the IOS operating system. Mac are moving to a more ISO like interface.

So now is the time for MS to copy them before they get left behind.
