Confusion for PopCap as $1 Billion EA Sale is Rumoured
So, PopCap's (Plants versus Zombies and Peggle) up for sale for $1 billion according to TechCrunch. Not, however, according to PopCap.

The TechCrunch story that kicked the whole thing off stated, "Huge news in the gaming world: PopCap Games, the company behind such hits as Plants vs Zombies and Bejeweled, is in the process of being acquired — and we’re hearing from multiple sources that the price is over $1 billion."

Apparently, Electronic Arts has the $1b to spend according to TechCrunch and is in the frame.

Then, according to VentureBeat, "PopCap’s soon-to-be customer engagement leader Jennifer Kye said the rumor was unfounded. Kye said her boss confirmed to her that the company was not planning to sell to any other company for $1 billion.

“@MrPope Sorry, I might not have been clear. I was simply stating that @TechCrunch‘s article is not true,” Kye said on her Twitter account. “I’ll be working there next week! My boss confirmed it for me.”

This tweet, however, no longer exists.

Now Forbes has chipped in with the idea that a Chinese company could buy PopCap. You have got to be very, very pleased to have shares in this particular game developer right now.

Urgh, can you imagine if EA got hold of Plants Vs. Zombies?

Three plants to choose from for the entire game...
