While Microsoft is claiming to have 'won' the USA in May for games hardware sales, Sony is not being downhearted. In fact it's querying one of NPD's stats.Apparently, NPD has stated that, "The Xbox 360 platform – the entire platform, not just the console – was the only one to see an increase in sales, though at 1 percent it was essentially flat over May 2010."
However, Patrick Seybold, Sony Computer Entertainment America's director of corporate communications, states, "We are pleased to see that according to the May NPD report, PlayStation 3 hardware sales increased 14% year-over-year."
Gama's done some maths, "According to last year's NPD data, Sony's PlayStation 3 sold 154,500 units in May 2010 -- factoring in Sony's reported 14 percent increase year-over-year, the platform sold approximately 176,130 units in May 2011."
Bearing in mind that hardware stats from NPD are only publishable by its subscribers - e.g. the platform holders, this is all very confusing indeed.
