Sony 'Uncertain' on PlayStation Network Restoration
Still twiddling your thumbs waiting for the PlayStation Network to be thrust back into life? Well, we hope you have a backup plan, because Sony has told Bloomberg that things may not be fully operational until the end of the month.

The bad news came from Tokyo-based spokesperson Shigenori Yoshida, who told the financial outlet in a phone conversation that "Sony is uncertain when it can resume" PSN and Qriocity services.

Rather, it is "in the process of adopting an improved security system and its plan to restart the services fully by May 31 is unchanged."

Sony had previously announced that a 'limited' form of PSN would be live by the end of last week, but that was before all hell started to break loose with further Sony Online Entertainment and internal sweepstake database breaches.

Of course, there's nothing to stop PSN from coming back in a limited form before the May 31st date - Yoshida did use the phrase "restart the services fully," after all - but the lack of news on even a revised rollout date will surely make players concerned of having an internet blackout for six weeks.

I'd wager that right now 99% of PSN users want only to be able to play PSP & PS3 online, and not a jot about the commercial aspects.

With that in mind, why not bring up the service with only a shell of the user accounts (PSN ID, email & password to be change at first sign-in), each account's friend list and the game services. It'd be nice to have trophies, but I can see there's the possibility that another hack could aim to mess with trophies so let's just hold off for the moment.

Curiously, my PS3 decided to implode into the now famous Yellow light of doom on the very day PSN went foom, only to be told by Sony that all my save games will be deleted if I buy a new machine and slot the old hard drive inside. Gamers are fickle creatures, not long ago we were all going on at Microsoft for RROD and marching straight and true to the Sony camp now that older PS3's blow up and the PSN network is broken I hear the same cries of 'Lets all buy 360s!' There is one console that has managed to stay ticking along quietly is the one mostly ignored by all these days suffering dust layers and loft damp. May I suggest you all dig out your Megadrives? They are still making some very good games for them you know, here have a read: http://bit.ly/i4uDUK No internet needed...

For the more conspiracy minded amoung us, has anyone considered that Microsoft could be behind the hack? They've certainly got the motive.
