For the most part, the movements of games PR and marketing people within the UK industry interests gamers about as much as the latest movements in the handbag making industry. However, as Apple poaches key figures from both Nintendo and Activision, you have to take notice. Two key movements, reported by MCV, this week indicate that Apple in the UK at least is now moving heavily into gaming as more than a lucky off-shoot of its Appstore and iOS devices.
First up: Nintendo UK's head of PR, Rob Saunders - who has been with the company for some seven years - is according to
the report, "There is no confirmation from Apple or Saunders himself as yet, but MCV understands that he will be focused on PR for apps across the iPad, iPod and iPhone ranges."
Next on the Apple cart is Activision's European PR director, Nick Grange. Nick's been with EA and Microsoft before joining Activision in 2007. So, another big gun. The
MCV report states that: "As with Saunders, Grange’s appointment is yet to be officially confirmed, but MCV understands that he will be joining the company in a role focussed on iPad hardware."
