Microsoft really, really wants to succeed in the games hardware business and especially, it would seem, in Japan.

Yesterday, the company held a press briefing, outlining what it would be doing at the Tokyo Game Show next week, in what must be seen as an unusual and somewhat overcautious move.

Speeches were made by two of Microsoft’s key Japanese figures, Marketing Director Norio Saito and Supervisor Toshiyuki Miyata. The two gentlemen attempted to outline what the Xbox was hoping to achieve. The fact that the Xbox’s key strengths would be delivering quality gaming rather than rehashes and sequels was heavily stressed.

“We believe software is something the developer puts their soul into creating,” said Miyata-san. “Xbox games will be unique, and our developers are passionate about creating new experiences for players.”

Microsoft then unveiled a 90% complete line-up for its Tokyo Game Show floor, revealing that of the ten first-party games that are in production, four would be playable next week.

Tenku: Freestyle Snowboarding, Project K-X, Mouse Hunt and Jockeys’ Road will all be playable at the event, held between October 12-14 at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo.
