Microsoft's director of incubation and creator of Kinect, Alex Kipman, has offered some salving words for the hardcore gamer. He's said that players can expect a slew of titles that will utilise both Kinect and traditional Xbox 360 controls for the console.Kipman explained that the system will continue to have controller-only titles but in the same breath added that what has not yet been discussed are titles that will utilise both methods of control, or hybrid games.
He also stated that he sees controllers standing as a barrier for new customers to experiencing the Xbox 360 and what it has to offer. He reinforced his position, stating that he couldn't stand behind that statement more strongly, that in his role he is increasingly seeing more new technology being sent his way and that as an individual you are having to invest more time to learn new technologies, in a sense becoming enslaved to it.
Kipman then counters the above notion by explaining that Microsoft technology (i.e Kinect) is technology that turns that idea on its head, creating a world where you technology will work to understand you rather than you work to comprehend it.
Interestingly enough, Kipman said in an
article back in 2009 at games trade show E3 that “Then you'll have some games that are essentially a hybrid – games that work both with the controller and with Natal" as well as explaining that the company loves the existing controller and that it is not going anywhere soon.
Excited at Kipman's prospect of games that will utilise both the traditional joypad and Kinect together? And do you see this actually being a practical means of control in future games? All thoughts, feel free to post them down below.
