Rumour: PSP Go to get $50 Slashing
The PSP Go is rumoured to see a price cut in the US by the end of the week, in a move that will aim to generate more sales of the download-only device.

Joystiq reports that the portable will see its RRP drop from $250 to $200 from the 15th October. Sony, for its part, stated that "we don't comment on rumour and speculation." There's no word about a similar price drop for Europe, but given that its held the same UK RRP of £225 since its launch, we'd say it's about time.

Pricing has been a major factor for consumers interested in adopting the PSP Go, be it in the device itself or in the cost of downloading games from the PlayStation Store. Many titles were being released on the digital platform for around £30, but today a PSP Essentials range mark classic titles for under £8 and some new releases go for roughly £16.

Retailers in the UK have been selling the PSP Go for under £180 despite the RRP, but an official price drop for could help draw more attention to the new benefits of the download store. Sony has yet to comment on any price moves in the UK.

the price should be £129 and no more and all games should cost £19.99 and budget titles should be £9.99 then it might have a chance.

...and PSP re-releases on PSN should be no more than £4.99, with all that PS1 shovelware max'd at £1.99.

Oh, and Minis (which look mostly to be garbage) should be 59p

Yeah, I'm in agreement there. I always thought Sony should have priced things as follows;

Minis: 59p - £1
PS1 Classics: £4
Essentials: £6
New Releases: £10

That sub-£10 price point is the mental barrier for me, I think. I keep seeing new releases for £15 or so, and although I'm sure they're well worth the money, I just can't justify it. I've not bought anything off the PSP store as a result. I'm very interested in getting one or two Essentials games though, now that Sony's plopped a whole heap of games in that category for under £8. That's much better in terms of digital distribution price range, for me.

Next to the price, the biggest "buy now" barrier for me is the dire state of the game information presented on the PSN Store.

90% of the time the description is marketing guff and tells a prospective buyer almost nothing about the game, with often the legals & copyright boilerplate taking up more lines than the description.

There are rarely any screens or videos - the two apparently being mutually exclusive on PSN store. For PS1 classics I've yet to see anything beyond the box art and sketchy text. There needs to be a bare minimum of quality, descriptive summary, screens and a preview video - anything less is just throwing sales away.

To date the related/recommended items down the right are alomost always the same regardless of the titles. FFS! Doesn't PSN know I already own Flower and Gravity Crash?

Hmm, I can think of one really good source of retail-friendly summary text and screenshots for those games. What was it called? Oh yeah, SPOnG!
