The head of Sony's Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has pointed out that Microsoft's marketing for Kinect - or Natal as he insists on calling it - has been of huge help to Sony's own Move controller."...ever since we announced Move at E3 last year, I've always felt like we were lucky that Microsoft made such a big deal with Project Natal. In a broader sense, we are categorised as 'Motion Gaming' - if we were just doing Move, we wouldn't have had as much coverage and attention from media and consumers.
"Because you have Kinect versus Move, or Natal versus Motion Controller... I've always felt that that helps to convey our message in terms of what's unique about Move. In our mind, from the beginning, we clearly understood the difference between what Microsoft is trying to do and what we have been doing. I feel like it's a great thing, to have the Kinect versus Move versus Wii comparison."
In the interview he also talks of how operations went under the creator of the original Playstation, Ken Kutaragi and how the company's outlook has evolved to be one with a more global perspective under the leadership of new executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, Kaz Hirai.
He also discusses the more open relationship between Sony's executives, developers for the PS3 and any upcoming iterations the future may hold, "They always wanted to make hardware that great games could be made for - but they didn't know who to talk to. They were making decisions with very limited insight from the software side, regarding what kind of hardware features or tools would make game developers happy."
Let's hope that whatever newly developed hardware Sony comes up with for its next games machine release, be it home console, portable or something else, that it doesn't come with a £425.00 RRP price tag.
