Despite rolling out an advert that stacks the PSP up against the iPhone, Sony didn't unveil a brand new PSP at this year's Gamescom, but that hasn't stopped rumours flying around of what the PSP2 will feature. The latest whispers detail a touch-capable device, about the size of a PSP-3000.Eurogamer is citing "three separate development sources" that claim the next-generation PSP will include a "rich and detailed" screen and a touch-sensitive area.
We say 'area' because nobody appears to know where it's situated, despite being touted as its most exciting feature. Eurogamer state on two occasions that it either sits on the "reverse of the unit" or "behind the screen".
The behind-closed-doors whispers continue regardless, with the suggestion that Sony has been showing off this as-yet unfinished new model off to publishers and has already decided on a business model. According to the report, the company is to rely on flash media support rather than disc-based storage.
So a touch-panel then, potentially not on the screen. We're not sure how that's going to work really, but maybe it will all make sense if it's showcased at a later date - if the thing is even real. Of course, Sony said that it "does not comment on rumour and speculation."
