New Capcom arcades loom?
Just a quick update from the Japanese rumour mill for you. Word on the streets of Akyiabara has it that Capcom is well under way with several new arcade titles, despite the company stating that it was withdrawing from the coin-op market.

The company has confirmed that it will put out Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation Vs Zion, a mech fighter co-developed with Bandai and Banpresto. This will run on the new industry favourite, the System 246 arcade system and a PlayStation 2 port has been announced.

More interesting are the as yet unannounced titles that are said to be in production at Capcom HQ.

One of the games is rumoured to be an all-new 3D fighting game, running on Sega’s Naomi hardware. Details are not easily available at this point in time, but a new EX title seems likely. Capcom somehow failed miserably to establish itself as a credible 3D beat-em-up producer, with all previous attempts given a frosty reception. Perhaps the company fancies a slice of the lucrative Tekken, Virtua Fighter and Bloody Roar market.

The second game is said to be a new 2D fighter in the Vs. range that Capcom has so well established. With the imminent release of Capcom Vs SNK 2 it is unlikely that the new game will come from this stable. Following the massive success of Marvel Vs Capcom 2, we believe it is about time that a sequel was released.

Please understand that this is all speculation at this point, but it comes from a trustworthy source and is likely to be spot on when Capcom speaks on the subject later in year.
