Mystery Deepens: Kinect & the WiFi Cable
Since we reported the Kinect specs back in June, we've been trying to extract information from relevant sources as to what exactly the Wi-Fi Extension Cable included in box is all about.

Info from this side of the pond has been as rare rocking horse manure. TekGolbin has managed to get an answer from Microsoft. Sort of an answer:

"The Wi-Fi extension cable included with the Kinect Sensor for Xbox 360 is for connecting to an external Wi-Fi adapter. This allows the use of a dual-band connection. The Kinect sensor and Xbox 360 S have their own built-in Wi-Fi, but the extension cable will be necessary for configuring a dual-band connection."

Clear? No. We're delving some more.

Non-slim systems only have 1 port in the back of the system. Also, both Wi-Fi adapters only have a 3-4 inch long cable for connecting to said port. So, if you connect the Kinect sensor to the back, then you would not have any place to hang the Wireless Adapter off of(only the Wireless N adapter has flip out legs for standing on a flat surface). With the extension cable you could hang the Wi-Fi adapter off the back of the Kinect sensor and then connect it to one of the front USB ports. Similar to how you connect your Wi-Fi adapter to the back of th HD-DVD drive minus the USB port.
