Sony seems intent on making the most of forming closer relationships with each and every division it holds. The latest to speak out on this is Sony Ericsson president Bert Nordberg, who hinted at a tie-up with Sony and the PSP platform. Can you say PSP Phone? That's the conclusion many are jumping to with these comments, made during the Monday issue of the Mobile World Congress Show Daily (via
Electronista). It would be a strange venture, given that at the cellphone company introduced several new Android-powered phones earlier this week.
But concerns that Sony Ericsson has been slow to catch market trends hit Nordberg, and he admitted, "we missed the window for high-end and touchscreen devices big time. Part of the recovery will be much better design and closer work with our partner Sony..."
Then the kicker; "In the past there was no tie-up between us, the PSP platform and Sony, but you can expect to hear much more about that." When? Hear about it when!? We want to hear more now!
Of course, any talk of a PSP Phone is pure speculation at this point, although we have contacted Sony for comment on the matter, as fruitless an endeavour as it no doubt will be. Sony has been at pains to extend its PlayStation Network services to other devices, so perhaps the closer relationship merely points to this instead, or by some other crazy tie-up that we've not thought about right now. Who knows?
