Apple's new iPad has been getting a lot of press about its gaming capability, and big-name publishers are already looking to the device as a viable platform. Following EA's leap to commit to the tablet, Epic Games vice president Mark Rein also had good things to say about the iPad.“I think iPad will be great for gaming and I suspect we'll see many games that make use of the differentiated form factor of the iPad,” Rein told
Kotaku shortly after the Apple presentation.
"Differentiated form factor"... brilliant.
He didn't say anything on whether Epic would be developing anything for the device, but did point out that it had a working demo of its
Unreal Engine 3 running on the iPhone – which by extension, will work just as well on the iPad.
Not an awful lot of iPad-specific games were revealed during Apple's conference, but to be fair Gameloft and EA had about three weeks to pull something out for the platform. The short deadline says something of their commitment, and with games making big money on the iPhone, it would seem natural for the bigger studios to jump on the iPad opportunity.
“Apple has done a great job at constantly improving the user experience on Mac and iPhone so I can only imagine where this platform can go in the future,” concluded Rein. Erm, isn't that true for the future of anything though Mark?
