Activision Blizzard is bucking the studio closure trend by opening a new one, the subtly-named Sledgehammer Games.
The studio will be headed up by ex-Visceral managers Michael Condrey and Glen A Schofield. Both left the EA-owned Visceral (Dead Space) in July.
As you'd expect, Dave Stohl, executive VP of studios at Activision is excited, while Glen and Mike are 'thrilled".
"We are excited to add their combined 30 years of experience and expertise to our management team", says Stohl.
"Michael and I are thrilled to be building a brand new studio for Activision", was Schofield's comment. He's now vice president and general manager of Sledgehammer.
Condrey, who is also a vice president but also COO of Sledgehammer, said something that included, "very empowering, "fantastic new studio facility" and "most profitable".*
No actual game news was mentioned.
For completists... "Activision Blizzard's independent studio model is very empowering," he said. "We have a fantastic new studio facility, the foundation for a world-class team and the backing of the industry's most profitable game publisher."
