Young, inexperienced Lara

Tomb Raider Reboot Art Removed by Lawyers
A website called fourplayercoop apparently put up images of yet another Tomb Raider reboot due before, as it says, "Crystal Dynamics' lawyers swooped in with a fancy email asking us to take the pics down".

The alleged (we can talk lawyer) reboot apparently features "a young and inexperienced Lara". Says Kotaku, which hasn't been asked to take down the details - or if it has been asked, has declined - quotes text which it says, "appears to be from an internal website".

"When a sudden storm destroys her research vessel, a young and inexperienced Lara Croft finds herself stranded on a mysterious and remote island hidden off the shores of Japan. Despite several signs of various inhabitants the island is oddly deserted, and an uneasy feeling settles in as strange sounds emerge from the shadows. With only her determination, inner strength, and resourcefulness to help her, Lara must overcome the challenges of a harsh and unforgiving journey that will take her across a vast island wilderness and deep into the claustrophobic and menacing underground tombs from the island's past. As she struggles to prevail through brutal combat encounters and treacherous exploration, Lara will be pushed to her limits and forced to adapt to her situation in order to survive and escape from the lethal predators that stalk her every move.

"Origin story. "This new Tomb Raider concept reboots the franchise by exploring the origins of Lara Croft's transformation into a hardened adventurer as you unravel the story behind the island's mysterious past."

Bear in mind this is all alleged detail... allegedly.

Another Lara reboot? So soon? Do we need one? Does anybody care?

Ah lawyers vs the net....who do you think is going to win here? Even if the picture is pulled, the cat is out of the bag and bolted.

Anyway, judging by that pic, I think Lara actually looks pretty good, but then the last reboot was much better too. The story seems a bit japan centric, but I guess that's expected with Square wearing the crown.

I still think the way to turn this series around is to study the competition. Uncharted does a great thing because you character acts like a real person in those conditions, interact well with supporting characters etc Uncharted 2 is looking greater. Lara in comparison is a bad hong kong film cliche. That was cool in the 90s, but not now. Also more fighting people and less shooting animals, and loose the twin gun crap. More characters besides Lara, and hell maybe even think about some online multiplayer gaming too.

Eidos/Crystal, ask yourselves why Prince of Persia and Uncharted work so well, and half the battle is won. I want to buy the TR series again, like I first did in 97, but changes must be made.

You mean make it into not tomb raider, make it into uncharted 2?? TR is about being on your own and exploring and solving puzzles, with a few bits of combat thrown in. Its not about huge online battles with loads of people. Legend and Underworld had too much combat in them because it's easy to spawn 15 bad guys and hard to design a challenging puzzle.

Nail. Head.

What made the original Tomb Raider great was the feeling of loneliness and isolation. It was eerie. And when combat did happen, it was short, and unexpected, which made it all the more exciting.

The level designs were great. Thought provoking and challenging. I want Tomb Raider to go back to being that - with all the character fluidity we've come to expect from the recent games, rather than the obviously grid based moves, levels and actions of the first game.

I'm still hot for the Tomb Raider concept - just not some of the executions.

Is it just me, or does Lara look worryingly like Emma Watson in that picture?

If it is just me that's jumped to that conclusion, then that's probably more worrying than her actually looking like Emma Watson.

I'm going to drink coffee in the hope of forming a coherent sentence at some point this morning...

I still think they should dtch the TR name, because its too self explanitory. If they renamed it Lara Croft Chronicles or something, it would give them more to play with, than just tombs.

This series continues to suffer, because time hasn't been kind to its aged concept. Running around near empty tombs in the PS1 days might have been fine, but many games give so much more than that. When I look at Prototype for example (maybe a bad one), I see the s**t ton of stuff you can do in that game, and its very much a modern game design. TR can't live up to this kind of stuff.

Too middle of the road in todays exciting market.
