By the time Sony and Microsoft have their motion-sensing peripherals out, Nintendo will be another step or two ahead, according to NoA's president, Reggie Fils-Aime.
Speaking to N'Gai Croal over at
Fast Company, Reggie said, "I'm not sure when their products will come to the market, but I can tell you by the time that happens, we will have to continue to move on, to drive more and more immersion on the part of the consumer."
Sounds a bit like more peripherals are coming. Hopefully, Reggie doesn't just mean the Vitality Sensor. He was pushed on what he meant by his statement and didn't mention the heart rate monitor, so fingers crossed he means something brand-spanking new.
Reggie also addressed the somewhat underwhelming response to the Vitality Sensor, saying, "And all I can tell you is, with the game developers that we have, we will bring forth an experience that you will say, 'Wow, I get it.'"
He compared it to the Balance Board, saying "If I told you that you would be standing on an oversized bathroom scale, and having fun doing it, you probably would have said, 'Reggie, I don't get it.'"
The Balance Board, if you didn't realise, is "arguably... the third largest development platform across the globe." Reggie didn't qualify exactly what constitutes a "platform", nor did he name Numbers 1 and 2 (though we can probably take a guess).
Well, we hope Ninty has something up its sleeve for the Vitality Sensor that doesn't just involve
not getting excited when we play
Mario Galaxy 2 in order to to score points. But, at the moment, we don't really get it...
