It's near Xmas and, let's face it, most of the industry figures who would be making video games news are now drunk and covered in pine needles. Of course, this also means that big publishers and devs will also use this time of debauchery to try to sneak in big news working on the principle that anybody who reads it will be too drunk to remember it come January. We doubt that the next piece of news falls into the latter category. There may - or may not - be a PSP 4000 in 2009.
Apparently, "Sony plans to refresh the PlayStation Portable product line with a PSP-4000 model in late 2009 and launch a true successor - a PSP2". So, says
Eurogamer, supporting the assertion by saying, "Publishing sources were unable to provide any further detail on next year's update" and "Even fewer details were available on the PSP successor, but we're told that developers are already working on games."
So, erm, apparently there's going to be a new PSP sometime in the future and maybe an update next year. All of this despite SCEE's president David Reeves
stating that there are no plans for a PSP2 in the near future.
At least this gives us a chance to run a nice picture of a lady with a PSP. We love Xmas.
