As firmware update 5.0 for the PSP slides into very recent memory, 5.01 is mooted. However it will not deal with the screen interlace problems that some users have been mentioning in regard to the all new PSP-3000.
This has already been dealt with by Sony, according to a statement made to
PSPFanboy. The statement reads, "On some occasions, scan lines may appear on scenes where brightness changes drastically, due to the hardware features of the new LCD device on PSP-3000.
"Installed with this new LCD device, PSP-3000 offers more natural and vibrant colours on its screen, but the scan lines have come out to be more visible as a result of improving response time to alleviate the afterimages on PSP-3000. Since this is due to hardware specification, there are no plans for a system software update concerning this issue."
Right, "Since this is due to hardware specification", obviously, there is no software fix. It's got to be said it is the first time that we've heard 'bit of a problem seeing things on screen' described as "hardware specification". It smacks of 'undocumented feature' as opposed to 'bug' in software.
We've contacted Sony to see if there is any further clarification on the issue.
One thing that has been announced, however, is a firmware upgrade to the recent firmware upgrade. The
US PlayStation forum saw an announcement regarding a fix for the an issue with memory sticks. Poor old Eric Lempel announces that the company has found an 'issue' with, "larger-capacity Memory Stick PRO Duos, which we’ll be addressing with a new update (5.01).
"When downloading content from the Store to a PSP with an 8 GB or 16 GB Memory Stick Duo media inserted, you may see a message indicating that the media does not have enough free space, even when sufficient space exists. Update 5.01 resolves this issue and will be coming soon."
Anybody out there had this issue? To the forum please.
