Electronic Arts has responded to the rumour doing the rounds that BioWare is working on a new
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic game, muddying the waters even further by claiming a recent listing does not "specifically" refer to a sequel.
EA's comments come following a presentation slide (pictured below) from a recent meeting with analysts making its way into the world. Since it was seen, the Internet has been rife with speculation that a
KOTOR title is in development, along with a new
Black game from Criterion, thanks to their appearance under the heading 'Titles' next to the developer's names. Clarifying (in an unclear sort of manner) EA said:
"The slide in John's presentation is titled 'Best Creative Talent'--it addresses future and past titles. KOTOR, Black, Boogie, Skate and some other titles on the slide speak to past portfolio releases and the pedigree of the studio but do not specifically address future sequels."
So, the listings do not "specifically address future sequels"... The flipside of that, of course, is that they don't specifically
not reflect future sequels. SPOnG has contacted EA for further clarification and will let you know what comes back.
The rumour that a new
KOTOR title was in the works was fuelled by an
announcement back in October that BioWare and LucasArts were collaborating on a new project. However, EA stated, "The [previously announced] MMO in development at BioWare Austin is listed as 'New MMO'". So, is 'New MMO' a
KOTOR game, while the '
KOTOR' listing does not refer to a sequel? That remains to be seen. SPOnG has to go lie down for a while...
Sequels that were confirmed in a later presentation by Frank Gibeau, EA's president, were new entries in the
skate. and
Rock Band franchises, as seen in the slide below.
