Microsoft is ready and waiting to embrace Wii owners who want to "graduate" from Nintendo's "limited console".
Speaking in a recent interview Jeff Bell, VP of global Xbox marketing, said:
"We're positioning ourselves to be ready if, in fact, gamers find they're ready to graduate from a certain experience potentially with the Wii, either because it's limited on the type of gameplay that's available or the technology in that box".
He also revealed that
the idea of the Wii60 is still alive and kicking at Microsoft, saying, "We think that we could live very, very well in the same household as the Wii, and we're trying to make sure that when there is that choice for a second console that it is the Xbox 360".
Bell's comments about Wii owners potentially needing something more to sate their gaming urges do echo those of Peter Moore, then Microsoft's Corporate VP ‘of games’, all the way back in 2006. He uttered the words, "In a lot of instances, it [Wii] will be a number two box because it's priced accordingly. The fear I would have is that people will buy the box and only play a few games. I think you'll pull it out at parties. It's fun for a few minutes, but I'm not sure [how long that will last]."
Of course, that was 16 months ago and it sounds like Microsoft's still waiting patiently for Wii owners to notice it.
