Sony PSP Turns Into Video Recorder

Japanese firmware update detailed

Sony PSP Turns Into Video Recorder
Soon, Japanese PSP owners are going to be able to use their PSP to record TV programming in conjunction with the 1seg tuner, which saw release in Japan earlier this year.

The new functionality will be available with firmware update 3.80, which will be released on December 18th in Japan. Once it comes, PSP owners will be able to record programming on the 1seg broadcast service on the fly. They'll even be able to preset the PSP to record programmes using the 1seg channel guide. TV content can be held on a Memory Stick Duo.

What Japanese gamers won't be able to do, unfortunately, is record programmes and use their PSPs for gaming - or anything else - at the same time.

The update will also enable the PSP to be used as an internet radio player.

Last, but not least (well, maybe least) - the update will allow PSP owners to grab demos and wallpapers at BB Mobile points, which provide wi-fi hotspots across Japan. Yes, definitely last.

Don't you wish you lived in Japan, eh readers?
