Capcom Confirms GameCube Exclusive Resident Evil
At a recent press event in Japan, Capcom went on record to say that it is producing an all-new Resident Evil title exclusively for GameCube.

A Capcom company spokesman said, “As well as producing a new style for the PlayStation 2 game Onimusha 2, we are in the works with several new games in the Biohazard series.” Biohazard is the Japanese name for Resident Evil. “I can confirm that the new games will be called Biohazard 0 and Biohazard 4. Biohazard 4 is underway for a variety of next generation consoles as we have previously discussed. Biohazard 0 will be a GameCube only game.”

He went on, “We can release no details at this time other than both games will be closely linked to the earlier games in the series.”

This news will go some way towards silencing the GameCube’s critics. Many analysts have written off the GameCube as a failure already, citing that it will only appeal to children and not the lucrative adult-gamer market. The fact that Nintendo has stated on many occasions that it is dropping the tight game content control policy it adopted over fifteen years ago seems to have been missed by these people.

The GameCube will be just the same as every other console in the market, in that it will support commercially viable game titles. This will, as Nintendo has already stated, include content aimed at a more mature audience. What will set it apart as probably the best in the market is the inclusion of a whole host of brilliant first-party Nintendo games such as Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and Metroid.
