Wii Dislodged As Most Searched For Console

More Demand For Xbox 360 Price Drop Than PS3?

Wii Dislodged As Most Searched For Console
The latest figures from Internet monitor, Hitwise, show that the 360 is the most searched for console, overtaking the Wii for the first time since its November launch (in the U.S. at least).

Since the Wii launched in November it has reigned as the most searched for console name, but the 360 has just nudged past it.

It might be speculated that the increase in searches is the result of unhappy punters wanting to find out about their warranty extension. Bill Tancer is the general manager, global research at Hitwise, thinks otherwise, however.

"Hitwise search data indicates it is not... Searches for 'xbox 360 problems' and 'xbox 360 repair' figure at #13 and #15 on the list [of most searched 360 terms]".

The figures also indicate that there may be more demand for an Xbox 360 price drop than for one on the PS3.

In the past four weeks there were 70% more searches on the term “Xbox 360 price drop” than for “ps3 price drop” in the US.

Going purely on platform names, Google trends contradicts this, showing Wii to be way out in the lead.

Comparing for platform names followed by "repair" underlines how seriously the problem is for 360.

Or Wii mod chip, for that matter. Something stirs in Googleland. 360 interest is probably because of the faults as much as the 360 Elite on the way. I only see that interest growing once September and the big games hit home.

That and Wii anyway.

Take a look for yourself.

360 spiked massively right after launch, but right now Wii is the clear leader, above 360 and PS3

I'm sure most people searching for "Wii Sports" had alternative motives....
