Napoleon Dynamite the film they wouldn't call Revenge of the Nerds V has finally been converted to a handheld game for DS and PSP and is to be published by Crave Entertainment - and it's only taken two years.
According to the press release, "Napoleon Dynamite quickly gained cult-classic status with its quirky look at life in rural Idaho. Teens and adults alike love the movie's colorful characters and offbeat take on teenage awkwardness. Napoleon Dynamite catchphrases (Vote for Pedro!) have become pop-culture fixtures, with references to the movie popping up everywhere from T-shirts to ice- cream flavours."
The game will include all your classic cult favourite characters including Kip, Uncle Rico, Pedro, Tina the llama, and of course, Napoleon himself.
Sure, so we've got disco dancing, Tupperware, electioneering and standing around in a school corridor somewhere...erm... sure there's game-play in there... sure.
The general opinion in the SPOnG office is that the people who do the franchising wanted a "...'teen/nerd' piece of IP to leverage" and couldn't afford the angsty shite that is Donnie Darko. At least the latter would have had rabbit hunting and aeroplane avoiding levels. We await handheld Napoleon Dynamite with, well, angst.
