Sony is celebrating the first anniversary of the PlayStation 2 in Japan. The event, “Happy Birthday PlayStation2!!”, held on February 24th at the Sony offices in Ginza, Tokyo, marks a huge milestone for Sony Computer Entertainment. In celebration, Sony offered party attendees the opportunity to get hands-on playing experience of several upcoming PlayStation 2 releases, including the complete PS2 version of Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Klonoa 2. As a special treat, a playable version of GT3 A-Spec was present, complete with a unique steering controller. Unsurprisingly, the working title proved to be the highlight of the event.

Sony’s success further demonstrates their commitment to the PlayStation 2 as a mass-market console and DVD player. Their continued support will ultimately be passed down to consumers, which in turn will reflect a good reputation back to Sony itself. With GT3, Silent Hill 2, WipEout Fusion and Metal Gear Solid 2 on the horizon, Sony can look forward to a dominant future. Congratulations!
