Rising Star Games has just sent over the latest details and screens from the second
Bubble Bobble (
Bubble Bobble Double Shot) game for the Nintendo DS, due out early in 2007.
The game, so Rising Star promises us, will be “a perfect re-creation of
Bubble Bobble’s frantic platforming gameplay, complete with all the secrets and bubble-flocking complexities that made the original such a rewarding game to master… Compact levels are spread across the two DS screens, complete with charmingly detailed versions of the series’ signature enemies. Rendered in keeping with the original’s retro aesthetic, both the level layout and the characters fit the
Bubble Bobble-style perfectly.”
As well as the much-loved Bub and Bob, the game introduces a new character called ‘Bubu’. Apparently, the main new gameplay mechanic is the need for players to switch between Bub, Bob and Bubu in order to take out certain colour-coded enemies. You do this by switching between the characters (each of who shoots bubbles in different hues) with a quick tap of the DS’s shoulder buttons.
There’s a host of other new features in the game, including a ‘Star Bubble’ that will enable a player to change the colour of all enemies when burst. You will also have to complete quick-fire touch-based mini-games after your character dies, in order to continue the game.
The single-player version of the game will feature over 100 levels, plus, most interestingly there’s a co-operative multiplayer option for up to three people “taking opportunities for bubble harvesting and point stealing to an entirely new level.”
