UK based Jester Interactive has just snapped up the rights to Jet Set Willy and Manic Miner, a move that might just see Miner Willy strutting his stuff in glorious 3D. In a deal that has been branded a steal by industry insiders Jester acquired the rights for an undisclosed small sum.

“We see no boundaries with the Jet Set Willy and Manic Miner licenses,” said Chris Morland, Jester’s Marketing manager. “We are at present throwing around ideas in our creative departments and nothing has been dismissed at this stage. The first release will hopefully be an enhanced port of the original games for Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance, perhaps with both games on one cartridge. We think that would be a nice way of rewarding fans of the series for their continued support. This has not yet been confirmed, but it’s one of the many things we have been discussing.”

When asked about possibilities for Manic Miner on next generation home consoles, Morland was surprisingly confident. “We are looking at Microsoft’s Xbox and the PlayStation 2 as viable platforms to release a new game. We have the technologies at Jester to really do the license justice, and we think that there are many, many gamers out there who would relish the prospect of playing a massive new 3D Manic Miner game.

“The project has also received a fantastic level of support from several big-name publishing houses. Everyone is enthusiastic about pushing Miner Willy into the 21st century.”

“Jet Set Willy and Manic Miner date back to the days when gameplay was king and these are two of the finest examples of this. This is a fantastic opportunity to see these classics make a comeback, rejuvenated to delight a whole new generation of gamers,” added Gavin Morgan, Jester’s CEO.
