Nintendo Backs Leaner, Meaner E3
Following our earlier news update on the new plans for E3 2007, Nintendo has become the first of the three main platform holders to come out and confirm that it will be backing the smaller event in Los Angeles next year.

Whilst the event is being massively downsized, following concerns from publishers over escalating costs, it’s good to know that it is still going to be a key occasion for the industry, instead of for the legions of ‘grab as much merchandise tat you can’ fanboys that have clogged up the LA Convention Center in recent years.

Whilst Microsoft and Sony remain tight-lipped about their own E3 plans for next year, it’s great to see Nintendo already backing the beleaguered show, with a spokesperson telling BBC News this morning: "Nintendo will be at E3 in 2007 but we have no details about our presence there as yet."

Meanwhile, an official, non-committal Microsoft statement reads: "We are very supportive of the Entertainment Software Association's decision in providing a new vision for E3. Over the past 12 years, the industry has grown and matured and it's great to see the show evolving to meet the needs of the industry."

SPOnG has put calls in to all three companies this morning to find out the latest details on their plans for E3 next year. As ever, we will keep you posted as soon as we know more.
