Codemasters says "Do phone - it's just for footballing fun" as details of LMA Football Quiz, the company's first WAP title complete with 2-player competition elements, emerge.
Based on the incredible brand success of LMA Manager, the best-selling PlayStation football management video game, LMA Football Quiz has been designed and developed internally at Codemasters. The LMA branded games are endorse by the League Managers Association, the official body of English football managers.
Digital Bridges, the company behind the WAP channel wirelessgames.com, will distribute the title to WAP Network Operators. LMA Football Quiz is being developed utilising Digital Bridges' UNITY software, which enables the game to be multi-phone compatible.
Codemasters is promising one of the most engaging, entertaining and atmospheric WAP games yet seen. LMA Football Quiz is a brain-busting football quiz for one or two players.
The one-player game is based around a penalty shoot out scenario with correct answers counting as goals. Players compete for a place in the LMA Football Quiz high-score league - a perpetually updated table of hundreds of players' scores that can be accessed and viewed on a WAP phone.
The innovative two-player game is called Match Challenge and is based on a football match with questions and answers identified as tackles, kicks and goals.
The first player kicks off by successfully answering a question. If player two then gets a question correct, it counts as a tackle and they take possession of the ball. The questions keep coming as players drive the ball up the pitch for a shot at goal question.
LMA Football Quiz builds an exciting and tense atmosphere during play with enthusiastic commentary text and graphics showing successful kicks, goalies diving and tackles. To keep footy fanatics glued to their WAP screens, LMA Football Quiz will be regularly updated and offer new rounds of challenging and amusing questions.
LMA Football Quiz has been designed as a pan-European WAP game, with modified and localised versions in English, German, Spanish, French and Italian. In Germany, the game's title is being localised utilising the licensing agreement in place with BDFL for the German edition of LMA Manager 2001.
LMA Football Quiz will be heavily cross-promoted in the advertising and marketing materials for the all-new PlayStation title LMA Manager 2001, which is tipped the be the first blockbuster PlayStation launch of the New Year when it launches on March 9 in the UK.
Codemasters will create a dedicated microsite to further promote LMA Football Quiz and it will be a highlighted feature on Codemasters' home page on its main web site.
Says Michael Hayes, Codemasters Marketing Director: "To capture the attention of a massive far-reaching audience we've combined two of Europe's biggest passions - football and quizzes. It's a simple mechanic and yet is perfect for WAP phone user to pass the time with in an entertaining way. As our first WAP title, we'll be monitoring levels and methods of usage to create further original titles for this channel."
