Big Brawls and furious hack and slash action abounds in 7 Blades.
Japan in the 18th century. The Island of Dejima has been designated by the Government as a trading point for western travellers. But religious fanatics plan to found their own state on the island. Samurais sent to investigate never return...
So begins the tale of 7 Blades. Take control of one of two playable heroes to uncover the secrets of Dejima Island. Each character plays through a different story encountering mysterious cities, legions of enemies and strange hi-tech constructions. The male character relies on an arsenal of swords, using different techniques according to the type of enemy. In contrast the female is more agile and can make use of a range of guns.
It's almost two years since the gaming concept for 7 Blades was written for PlayStation. Only now has the new hardware of PlayStation 2 enabled developers to realise their dreams. A good example of these possibilities can be seen with the legions of enemies crowding onto the screen. Now more than 20 characters can simultaneously be fighting against each other.
However the project is more than just an action game. Konami was able to bring well-known Japanese film director Kaizo Hayashi on-board. He leads the team of 20 developers as direction supervisor, contributing his movie experience. Hayashi recognises the importance of an exciting story and says: "Seven Blades should really be viewed as a movie with action elements."
