Liverpool, Merseyside, June 1, 2004 – Scary Fish Ltd. was unveiled today as a new independent games company, based in the North West of England.
The company was originally established in 2001 as Thalamus Interactive Ltd, specialising in entertainment software for the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance systems; the company released a number of successful titles on those platforms.
Scary Fish represents a shift in focus for the company, and has been established to capitalise on industry changes over the last 12 months, not least the sheer diversity of gaming platforms and the continuing trend of larger Publishers and Developers outsourcing more of their workload.
“Scary Fish is not strictly a developer in the formal sense, more a resource point for those looking to outsource,” stated Managing Director Andy Roberts. “We’ve always favoured the use of highly experienced freelancers and satellite teams – now we can put that network to use and offer a one-stop service to Publishers and Developers. Essentially, we can focus on the smaller details as well as the larger picture.”
Such is their broad talent base, Scary Fish are able to offer a wide variety of services to clients. “We can handle any aspect of product development for any platform,” added Roberts, “from game design and concept approval, through to localisation, QA, marketing, and often-neglected follow up materials such as strategy guides.”
The company is already working on a number of projects for mobile and next-generation platforms, and already has plans to open a studio in Canada later this year.
