Virgin Interactive has secured the rights to the Dreamcast and PC versions of Team 17's latest Worms title, Worms World Party.
The Team 17 series is widely recognised as one of the greatest multi-player experiences available on any format and for this latest campaign, players will be able to take the fight online. For the first time in the series' history, players will be able to compete against other Worms World Party owners across the globe. The move represents the next stage in the evolution of one of the most successful video game franchises ever and also marks a new era in online gaming.
Worms World Party continues the unrivalled mix of strategy and arcade elements that have taken global sales of the series to over five million units. Players are given full control over a party of five worms and are sent into battle against rival factions. Using a set number of given weapons - including rocket launchers, air strikes and an array of guns - the aim of the game is to blow away the enemy in a classic 'last man standing' scenario. The PC and Dreamcast versions of the game feature 40 single-player missions and 20 special training arenas. Team 17 has also included a new 'Tournament' mode, allowing eight human players to enter battle simultaneously.
The all-new online mode has been designed to allow Worms commanders to take on rival camps all over the globe. Players will be able to take the battle on line in real-time battles with no time lag, with Team 17 instigating a number of online-dedicated facilities. Beginner and Expert zones will be on offer, while Worms fans can also converse in specially set-up chat rooms. Players will also be asked to select their home country from a special world map to show their opponent the location of their online foe.
With its world-famous sense of humour and incredibly addictive gameplay, Worms World Party is set to wow a new legion of fans as it takes the fight online.
Worms World Party is released for Dreamcast and PC in November 2000.
