Super Runabout turns players loose to wreak havoc on the hallowed streets of San Fran. Developed by Climax Entertainment and published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment late 2000 for Sega Dreamcast, Super Runabout promises to be the top driver for Dreamcast this Christmas.
Super Runabout is a frenetic mission-based driving game based on the original PlayStation game, Runabout. The gameplay retains much of the 'feel' of the original - with the player tearing down streets in a variety of vehicles (cars, mopeds, school buses, tanks!) at breakneck speeds, avoiding pedestrians and the police, whilst trying to complete a given task before the timer runs out.
Crash through anything in your way as you perform high-intensity missions. Pull off crazy stunts and engage in extreme driving action as you burn some serious rubber on the streets of San Francisco. The various city maps are huge, with many interlocked streets, shortcuts, hidden alleyways and quiet side streets to discover.
With over 25 mayhem-inducing vehicles Super Runabout allows the player to plow through obstacles in tanks, fly over those famous hills on ridiculously fast motorbikes or keep it low and fast for F1 racing. In fact, one of the most amazing and unique features of Super Runabout is your ability to drive virtually anywhere in it through a fully detailed model of San Francisco. There are no racetracks here! Drive over, under or through almost anything.
Every vehicle has unique handling characteristics and may be better suited for certain missions.
Talking about missions - there are an impressive 16 of them in the game. Each mission has a main objective that may include bomb disposal, knocking down hot dog stalls, stopping a runaway tram or even wrecking a train! This helps to keep the game fresh and addictive, giving each mission that much-vaunted movie-like feel.
Players can also rack up some serious $$$ in damage. The great thing being that the more damage you do, the more $$ you get! Take out mailboxes, derail cable cars and drive inside buildings. The city is your playground and road rage has never been so sweet.
