Fast-paced air combat is the order of the day as Konami of Europe readies Deadly Skies III – the first PlayStation 2 installment of the popular series – for take-off in April this year.

Following successful missions for the Dreamcast, Game Boy Advance and Xbox systems, Deadly Skies III for PlayStation 2 sets it sights even higher, with the series’ renowned combat missions now enhanced via incredibly detailed graphics, a larger number of characters, twisting plots and a number of officially-licensed planes. The game concentrates on the efforts of the heroes of Delta Squadron, a crack unit of pilots, committed to protecting the world from enemy forces – and now faced with their greatest challenge to date.

The player can select one of 20 members of the Force, before guiding their chosen hero through the 60 squad-based futuristic missions that unfold. Intuitive controls and remarkable CPU AI then contribute to a series of breath-taking tasks wherein players are charged with taking out key installations, convoys or weapon facilities, with the game eventually leaving the atmosphere of Earth and taking the player into space where it transpires the biggest threat to Earth lurks.

To counter the various threats, players have access to over 130 aircraft, each of which is tailored to the unique flying styles of the pilots and particularly suited for particular missions. Officially-licensed and intricately recreated craft such as the MiG-29SMT ‘Fulcrum C’, the F-15E ‘Strike Eagle’, Eurofighter Typhoon and F-2A are lined up alongside classic World War II propeller-class craft and even the Vic Viper craft from Konami’s ever-popular Gradius series of shoot ‘em ups!

Deadly Skies III’s mix of skilled flying and accuracy makes it a truly engrossing title, while the unfolding plot and the key characteristics of the cast of pilots as they get the most out of the game’s many craft contributes to one of the most exciting flight action titles in 2004. Get ready for take off in April…
