Based on best-selling works by author Larry Bond, the Harpoon series game system models modern naval warfare. Harpoon 4 has all the depth and detail of its famous predecessors, but with the addition of amazing graphics that really bring naval tactical combat to life.
Harpoon 4 is a nerve-wracking 3D combat simulation, featuring more than 250 modern ships, submarines, aircraft and ground formations from 14 different countries. There is also an option that allows players to create 'super ships', and a powerful scenario editor allowing for unlimited gameplay.
Other unique features of the game, include:
· A highly detailed map of the Northern European region, created from actual satellite imagery.
· Customise-able gameplay maps that can display more than 25 overlays, including weapons and sensor ranges, bathymetric data, ice pack, weather, cloud cover, daylight and satellite coverage.
· A highly detailed 3D environment in which players can view ships, subs, aircraft and helicopters in action. The 3D environment will display weapons and radar envelopes, spectacular special effects and much more.
· An extensive database of platforms, weapons and sensors, with descriptions, drawings, photos and video where possible. The open-architecture database will also enable players to create their own ships, aircraft and vehicles.
· Gameplay taken from the High Tide campaign, written by New York Times best selling author Larry Bond.
Designed for the entry-level player, the Harpoon series has been a success both in the commercial market and the professional naval community. The games are used at the Naval Academy, several ROTC installations, and on surface ships as a training aid. Currently published in its paper format by Clash of Arms, Inc., Harpoon has won the H.G.Wells Award in 1981, 1987, and 1997 as the best miniature game of the year, the only game to win the award three times.
Author Larry Bond commented: "Everything about Harpoon 4 is a step up from what's been done before. With more powerful PCs to play games, it's the material and the design team that matters most. Fortunately, in the case of Harpoon 4, we are combining the most accurate game system with experienced designers and developers who know naval warfare games. The end result will be the most sophisticated computer naval game ever published. I can't wait to play it myself!"
