Activision’s Dark Reign 2 Targets Retail Shelves
Gamers get the chance to take command of the sprawlers in their battle for independence.
London, U.K. – June 30, 2000 – The forces of freedom and tyranny will clash this summer as Dark Reign 2 makes its way onto retail shelves worldwide the week of July 3. Published by Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and developed by Pandemic Studios, the epic real-time strategy game puts players in command of the ragtag Sprawlers or the oppressive Jovian Detention Authority as they battle for supremacy of the world.
“Dark Reign 2 continues the tradition of excellent gameplay and multiplayer mayhem set by its predecessor, but adds amazing 3D graphics to the mix,” said Mark Lamia, executive producer, Activision Studios. “By combining classic RTS gameplay with a true 3D environment players are going to be more immersed in the action than ever.”
The prequel to the RTS classic Dark Reign, Dark Reign 2’s battlefield of the future allows for real 3D terrain, new strategic options, unprecedented battlefield control and superior multiplayer features. The new squad-level RTS enhancements, advanced waypoint system and building manager give gamers total control of their forces in the field. The game’s fully 3D battlefield brings the world to life with spectacular environmental effects, diverse terrain and day and night missions. Using the games simple yet powerful camera controls players can deploy their forces in the strategic view and then zoom in to watch the carnage up close.
In Dark Reign 2's apocalyptic future, an earth ruined by failed terra-forming has fallen under the rule of a repressive world police force, the Jovian Detention Authority. Charged by the Earth's elite with protecting their exclusive 'dome' cities, the JDA is locked in an ongoing battle to pacify the masses of urban 'Sprawlers' who dwell in the toxic, irradiated world outside. It is not until the occurrence of a single, catastrophic event, however, that the Sprawlers unite their unconventional technologies and weaponry to engage the JDA in the violent drama of Earth's final chapter. The battle unfolds on land, sea and air, and gamers can take up the cause of either side, fighting through 20 challenging day and night missions.
Fans of multiplayer strategy gaming will be able to reign over their friends in Dark Reign 2’s robust multiplayer modes. The game offers players Internet and LAN play, including Cooperative, Capture the Flag, Blood Bath, Control Freak and King of the Hill games. Powerful editing tools will be available for Dark Reign 2 that will give players the freedom to create their own levels and custom mods, and WON.net support will facilitate map swapping for endless replayability.
