Infogrames’ Rollercoaster Tycoon tops the Charts for over two Consecutive Years

RollerCoaster Tycoon from Infogrames shot to the top of the PC software sales charts when it debuted in the spring of 1999 and stayed in the top 10 until the week of October 28 – when it moved down to the number 11 position to make room for the regular and limited editions of Infogrames’ new Sid Meier’s Civilization III, which debuted in the number one and number two positions in their first week of sales, according to NPD INTELECT. RollerCoaster Tycoon’s broad-appealing theme – building and running your very own amusement park – and in-depth game play have captivated a mass audience which to date has purchased more than 2.5 million copies of the award-winning sim game.

The top-selling computer game of 1999 according to NPD INTELECT, RollerCoaster Tycoon enables players to create and control everything in their own amusement park, from the height and thrill-factor of the roller coasters, to the number of concession stands and bathrooms available to park patrons. The game even lets players control their park’s advertising to attract new visitors. Limited only by their imagination, players get to creatively build an amusement park that will satisfy guests and turn a profit, so they can expand and run their parks for many seasons to come.

RollerCoaster Tycoon’s overwhelming success spawned two expansion packs – RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies and RollerCoaster Tycoon: Loopy Landscapes – which have also been huge hit among fans. Released in November 1999, Corkscrew Follies was a top-10 PC game through most of 2000, according to NPD INTELECT. Launched in September 2000, Loopy Landscapes offers players many new rides, as well as 30 new scenarios that challenge players with unique terrain and objectives.
